📋 THEMATIC OVERVIEW
📍 WEEK 1 WRAP — YEAR 8 SEASON 1: RISE UP 📍
Year 8 Season 1: Rise Up launched Thursday, April 2, 2026 — and it is one of the most system-heavy updates The Division 2 has ever received. From a brand new endgame activity in Escalation, to a new gear rarity in Prototype, to a completely overhauled Black Tusk Retaliation loop, Rise Up has fundamentally changed how veteran Agents approach the endgame. This Week 1 briefing covers everything that happened across the full launch week — event transitions, the Division Resurgence launch, server maintenance, the Rise Up content drop, and all tactical content produced by The Division Dispatch. Whether you’re hitting the ground running or still finding your footing in the new systems, this is your complete field debrief.
🔶 EVENT TRANSITIONS — WHAT ENDED, WHAT LAUNCHED
Assault Global Event — Ended
The Assault Global Event concluded Tuesday, March 31 after the daily projects reset. Agents had until reset to spend their Stars — unspent Stars did not carry over.
Expertise Surge — Extended Then Ended
Originally scheduled to end Tuesday March 31, the Expertise Surge event was extended through Thursday, April 2 after the daily projects reset. Agents received additional time to push Expertise levels ahead of the Prototype Gear system launching with Rise Up.
The Division Resurgence — Launched Tuesday, March 31
The Division’s official mobile entry went live worldwide on March 31. Resurgence features full controller support, cross-progression across devices, and a canon story set weeks after the first game — returning Agents to Manhattan to face a new faction, The Freemen. The game is free-to-play with cosmetics and battle passes. Linking your Ubisoft Connect account earns rewards in both Resurgence and The Division 2, including a Level 40 boost.
Descent Surge — Running This Week
Double currency is active in Descent this week. Best window to farm Descent rewards and outfits — don’t overlook it while chasing Rise Up content.
🔶 SERVER MAINTENANCE — APRIL 2, 2026
Scheduled maintenance deployed Thursday, April 2 to deliver the Year 8 Season 1 Title Update. Downtime began at 9:00 AM CEST / 3:00 AM EDT and was originally estimated at 5 hours 30 minutes. Maintenance was extended by approximately 2 hours before servers returned online. All platforms — PC, PlayStation, and Xbox — came back clean with Rise Up live.
🔶 YEAR 8 SEASON 1: RISE UP — FULL SYSTEM BREAKDOWN
Escalation — New Endgame Activity
Escalation is the headline feature of Rise Up and the primary path to Prototype Gear. Agents replay missions and strongholds across 10 difficulty tiers — Tier 10 hits harder than Legendary. There are no checkpoints; failure costs your Escalation tokens. Five missions rotate weekly, accessible via the Base of Operations with solo or group matchmaking available. Drop rates increase significantly at higher tiers, up to 300% at Tier 10. Mutators — including Harvester, Suppressor, Hot Foot, and Unyielding — rotate with the weekly mission pool and change how each run plays out.
Escalation Matchmaking Tip: Do not matchmake from the Base of Operations if you want a specific mission. Fast travel to the mission location, toggle Escalation, then start matchmaking from there.
Prototype Gear — New Rarity
Prototype Gear is the new endgame ceiling. Attributes roll up to 1.5x higher than current maximum rolls. Each Prototype item comes with an Augment — a levelable special effect that grows with use. Augments include Echo (chance to deal damage twice per shot), Quantum (temporary damage immunity), Anomaly (skills heal on activation), and Paradox (magazine refill while firing). To upgrade existing gear, the item must be at Expertise Level 30 and costs one Protocore per upgrade. Protocores are obtained by deconstructing Prototype drops from Escalation, from Raid and Incursion caches, with a weekly cap of 6 per character. Upgrade is available via the Protolab tab in the Tinkering Station — unequip the item first if the option appears locked.
Critical Warnings:
No recalibration after upgrade — stats and talents must be perfect before converting
Exotics cannot be upgraded yet — planned for a future update
Skill Tier scaling is NOT currently working with Prototype upgrades — devs have confirmed a fix is coming
Visual stat bug may appear after upgrading — relog to resolve
Recommendation: Focus on weapon damage and armor builds first. Hold off on skill builds until the Skill Tier fix is deployed.
Black Tusk Retaliation Overhaul
Black Tusk are no longer confined to missions — they are now a persistent open world threat. Black Tusk can actively take over Control Points. The new Agitation Overclock system allows up to 3 consecutive Retaliations. The Retaliation timer now runs on active playtime rather than real-world time. Retaliation matchmaking has been added. Elite Kill Squads — including the dangerous Team 9 unit — now deploy into the open world. Retaliation rewards include Exotic Blueprints (Capacitor, Vindicator, Climax Exclusives) and a new crafting material: Diamond Transceivers.
Retaliation Workaround: Retaliation bars may appear stuck at zero for some players. The most reliable method to trigger a Retaliation is by completing the Daily Agitation Project.
Recombinant Modifier System
A new build layer sitting on top of existing gear. Three modifier categories — Offense, Defense, and Utility — each containing active and passive options. Active Modifiers include Blackout Pulse (EMP + Shock), Cloud Armor (heals and blinds enemies at max level), and Overload (skill boost + Overcharge). Over 30 passive modifiers change how a build functions, and stacking order affects final output. Enemy Countermeasures introduce new threat layers: System Drain reduces modifier power, Inversion Field flips your strongest stat against you, and Obstructor Virus disables passive modifiers entirely.
New Gear and Weapons
Agitator — Exotic AR with Perturb talent. Low threat while holstered; swapping to it triggers a major damage and fire rate boost. Weapon swapping is a core playstyle this season.
Investor — Exotic Mask. Bonuses scale based on your highest attribute colour — Red grants Crit Damage, Yellow grants Skill Efficiency, Blue grants Armor Regen.
Core Strength — New Gear Set already dominating the meta. Grants 75% of the cores you are NOT investing in. Hybrid builds are hitting 2M+ armor while running full red cores. Farm via Targeted Loot in Countdown, Summit, and Retaliations, or via Rise Up Caches from the Countdown vendor.
The Archivist — New Named AR based on the ACR platform with Perfect Ranger. Strong base damage and stability. Locked behind the Library of Congress Classified Assignment (500 Premium Credits).
Interchange (AUG) and Trader (ACR) — New named weapons featuring Perfect Back and Forth, a swap-based talent that rewards active weapon switching.
Whiplash Exotic Pistol — Guaranteed on first completion of the Master Climax mission. RNG drops on subsequent runs.
Classified Assignments
Exploration-focused premium missions with collectibles, puzzles, hidden secrets, and possible Hunter encounters. Library of Congress is live now with Rise Up (500 Premium Credits). Capital Globe Anomaly launches May 12, 2026. Both are now fully replayable with targeted loot on repeat runs.
Progression and QOL Updates
Exotic Expertise upgrade costs cut by 50%
Loot despawn timer increased from 30 to 90 seconds
Retaliation matchmaking added
New Community Bug Reporter launched — submit bugs, upload proof, upvote issues directly to the dev team
🔶 WEEK 1 VENDOR RESET — APRIL 5 HIGHLIGHTS
This week’s reset coincides with the Year 8 Season 1 launch — Danny Weaver is stocked with new Rise Up Caches alongside the regular rotation. Strong week overall, especially for Agents chasing Core Strength early.
Rise Up Caches — Danny Weaver / Constitution Hall — BUY OF THE WEEK — Core Strength Gear Set is one of the strongest build options this season.
⚠️ Bug warning: some players reporting purchase issues — verify before spending textiles.
Black Friday LMG — DZ Vendor — Perfectly Unhinged + max Damage to Armor — PvP-exclusive, only one of its kind.
KSG Shotgun — Clan Vendor — max Damage to Target Out of Cover, roll Pummel.
Orbit Pistol — DZ South — Perfect Finisher, elite for boss burning and PvP.
Firm Handshake Gloves — DZ West — max Status Effects roll.
Fenris Mask — Campus — max Crit Hit Damage, recalibrate to double crit.
Danny Weaver also has Exotic Cache, Legacy Cache, Crafting Cache, and Field Proficiency Cache available this week.
🔶 WEEK 1 TACTICAL CONTENT RECAP
SHD Training Series Week 8 — Brand Sets
Brand Sets are the foundation of every optimized build. Week 8 broke down how 1, 2, and 3-piece bonuses work, why mixing brands outperforms stacking in most builds, and the critical difference between Brand Sets and Gear Sets. Key takeaway: always check the brand bonus before equipping a piece — the right brand on a weaker roll beats the wrong brand on a perfect roll.
Mission Backstories — Intermission Briefing: The War So Far
Before Rise Up takes operations deeper, this week’s Mission Backstories paused to recap the full arc — from the D.C. collapse and the rise of factions, through Keener’s rogue movement in New York, to Black Tusk’s long game shaping the battlefield from the shadows. The central question for the community: who do you trust more — The Division, or those who broke from it?
Hunter Mask Files — Death, Phantom, Cross & Diamond + Ivory Key #7
Four Hunters. One arena. East Mall after 21:00. Pull the lever inside the coffee shop near the rink to activate the Christmas tree, then run clockwise laps until all four Hunters spawn simultaneously in clouds of smoke. Full group strongly recommended. Rewards: Death Mask, Phantom Mask, Cross Mask, Diamond Mask, and Ivory Key #7.
Farming Friday — Year 8 Season 1 Farming Priorities
With Rise Up live, Farming Friday delivered a full Season 1 farming roadmap. Priority order: Escalation as the core farm, Prototype Gear as the new endgame ceiling, Black Tusk Retaliation for exotic blueprints, and smart upgrade warnings for Skill Tier builds. The loop is deep this season — plan before you spend Protocores.
Manhunt Week 1 — Scout #1 Solution
Scout #1 is a clean opener. Activate the Scout first in the Manhunt menu — progress does not count without activation. Capture Navy Plaza in Federal Triangle, complete 3 activities in the area (Navy Plaza capture counts as one), then clear Jefferson Trade Center on any difficulty. Bonus: a UFO sighting collectible unlocks this week, teasing something larger as the Manhunt story builds.
🔶 WEEKLY REMINDER
⏰ Week 2 of Year 8 Season 1 is now live. Manhunt Scout #2 is active — activate it before starting any objectives. The Escalation grind continues and Descent Surge double currency is still running. If you haven’t started your Core Strength farm yet, this week is the time. Hold off on Prototype upgrades for skill builds until the Skill Tier fix is confirmed deployed.
