Every Wednesday the SHD Field Archive opens a new Hunter Mask File — no rumors, no guesswork, just clean field-ready intel for agents chasing full mask completion. This week we are documenting the Ghoul Mask, one of the more atmospheric and deceptively tricky encounters in the game. The Ghoul lurks beneath West Potomac Park and will only reveal itself after dark, making this a nighttime-only operation that catches unprepared agents off guard. Whether you are a returning veteran filling gaps in your collection or a newer agent tackling Hunters for the first time, this file has everything you need to get in, trigger the encounter, and walk away with the mask and the Ivory Key.

🔶 LOCATION
West Potomac Park — Underground sewer tunnel system north of the Lincoln Memorial
The encounter is split across two locations: the sewer tunnel activation point and the external trigger point near the lake.
🔶 HOW TO TRIGGER THE HUNTER
Step 1 — Activate the Laptop
Travel to West Potomac Park and locate the sewer entrance near the Lincoln Memorial. There are three sewer entrances arranged in a triangle formation — take the top left entrance. Navigate through the tunnel until you reach a room containing a lit laptop on a desk. Interact with the laptop. A map will appear on the wall marked with an X and a moon icon confirming the hunt is active for the night.
Step 2 — Summon the Hunter
Exit the sewers and travel to the X location — a small body of water near the Lincoln Memorial. Look for a small wooden hut or raised sniper stand positioned in the middle of the lake area. Inside or hanging from the roof of the hut you will find a flickering light bulb. Shoot the light bulb. The Hunter spawns immediately in a cloud of smoke.
Step 3 — Defeat the Hunter
The fight begins the moment the Hunter appears. There is no wind-up period — be ready before you pull the trigger on that bulb.
⏰ Time Requirement:
This encounter is nighttime only — you must activate the laptop and begin the hunt after 21:00 in-game time. Attempting this during the day will not work.
👥 Recommended Group Size:
Solo is possible for experienced agents. Duo or small group is strongly recommended for first-timers given the Hunter’s damage output and toolkit.
🔶 COMBAT WARNINGS & RECOMMENDED PREP
Hunters are not standard elite enemies — they are a completely different class of threat and need to be treated accordingly.
What to Expect:
• High-tier gadget usage including drones and self-healing — do not expect a clean stand-and-shoot fight
• Capable of one-shotting agents who are caught out of position or underarmoured
• Aggressive and relentless once spawned — the Hunter will push hard and give you no breathing room
• No environmental cover advantage — the lake area is open and exposed
Recommended Loadout:
• Riot Foam — highly effective for locking the Hunter in place and creating a damage window
• High-damage Signature Weapons — burn the Hunter down fast before it can recover or disengage
• Maximum armour stack or a dedicated healer in group — survivability is the priority here
• Avoid skill-heavy builds unless they are well optimised — the Hunter’s gadget disruption can shut down poorly built skill users
🔶 IVORY KEY — WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Ghoul Hunter drops one Ivory Key on defeat alongside the mask. There are 8 Ivory Keys total in The Division 2, each tied to a specific Hunter encounter. Collecting all 8 allows agents to unlock the Ivory Cache located in the White House basement — the cache contains a unique exotic reward. If you are working through the full Hunter collection, the Ghoul is one of the cleaner encounters to farm once you know the trigger steps.
