📋 THEMATIC OVERVIEW
🚨 YEAR 7 SEASON 3: MUTINY LAUNCHES TODAY! 🚨
Agents, the wait is over. Year 7 Season 3: Mutiny goes live later today, December 2nd, bringing the most requested feature in Division 2 history—NPC Companions. This season follows the aftermath of the previous season’s events, dealing with the lore threads of Anderson and Natalia’s alliance while focusing on a split within the True Sons faction. This report covers everything announced during yesterday’s developer special report: the companion system, new gear sets and exotics, the December event calendar, and content creator collaborations.
🔶 FEATURED NEW GAMEPLAY: NPC COMPANIONS
The long-teased NPC Companion system is the highlight new feature for Season 3 and represents a fundamental shift in Division 2 gameplay.
Recruitment & Roles: You can recruit new companions in the open world, each coming with different roles and traits. The three main archetypes are:
Assault – Offensive combat specialist
Engineer – Skill and tech support
Medic – Healing and armor restoration
Upgrades: You can upgrade your active companion class (modifier) up to Level 3, increasing their power and effectiveness in combat.
PTS Improvements: The team has made significant improvements to companion behavior and AI since the Public Test Server (PTS), aiming for them to feel “much more responsive, snappier, smarter, and more potent”. The developers listened to community feedback and refined the system extensively.
Future Plans: While companions are seasonal content, if the reception is positive, the devs hope to bring them back in some form as a permanent feature in the future.
Co-op Rules: Groups can have only one companion active at a time, regardless of group size. When a companion is summoned, a universal 90-second cooldown applies to all players before another player can summon their own. This prevents companion spam in group content while maintaining balanced gameplay.
🔶 NEW GEAR & WEAPONS
The new gear aims to increase cohesion with the season’s theme, often involving working with allies and companions.
Unit Alloys Brand Set: A popular set focusing on raw power and provides an increase to Rate of Fire, which will be exciting for Assault Rifle players. This set delivers aggressive DPS potential for AR-focused builds.
Concentrated Company Gear Set: This set is heavily team-play focused and was buffed significantly since the PTS. When you mark an enemy by shooting them, and they are taken down, all allies (group members or your companion) receive a boost in weapon damage and crit hit damage. The stacking mechanic now provides substantial offensive bonuses.
Beacon Exotic Chest Piece: This chest piece received a strong buff since the PTS, with values significantly increased:
Crit Damage is now 30% (instead of 20%)
Skill Efficiency increased to 15%
Armor Regen is now 2% (instead of 1%)
These changes ensure it is a “difference maker” when sacrificing a gear set piece, making it viable for hybrid skill/DPS builds.
Bittersweet Exotic Sniper: This support weapon features the Transfusion talent. When you get a headshot kill to build stacks, you can then shoot your allies or skills to heal or repair them. Available in the season pass. This weapon enables unique support-sniper playstyles.
Sheriff Exotic Shotgun: You will unlock this very powerful shotgun upon concluding the Mutiny climax mission on the Master difficulty. Likely releasing around February as the season’s manhunt reward.
🔶 MANHUNT & FINALE
The manhunt follows Anderson’s trail as the narrative explores the True Sons faction split and the consequences of last season’s events.
Finale Location: The finale is excitingly teased to be set at the Iron Works Foundry—the location of the Iron Horse raid. This will presumably be a separate instanced version of the location for the climax mission, bringing players back to one of Division 2’s most iconic raid environments.
🔶 DECEMBER EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES
December is a very packed month with several activities planned:
Survival Live Stream: There will be a Survival live stream next week with the Creative Director of Survivors, Magnus Jansen, showcasing The Division 1’s iconic game mode.
Creator Collaboration – Starts December 9th: Featuring Sergeant Greybeard, Splinter Shield, and GC Rock.
The collaboration will have a longer duration and a shortened project chain
BIG NEWS: They have fixed the arm patch code situation! Not only will the new creators receive a single infinite use code, but this change is retroactive—meaning past creators will also receive an infinite use code for their patch.
Arm Patch Return: The original arm patches from the content creator collab (DJ Tickle, Nothing But Skills, and Rogue Gold) are making an unlimited-use comeback! The code will be posted on X, Discord, and YouTube as soon as it is available.
New Collabs Next Week: Three new content creator collabs will be dropping in about a week’s time (a week tomorrow/Tuesday):
GC Rock is bringing winter-themed gear, including a backpack variation with his logo, a hoodie with red trim, a fur-lined winter jacket, and a beanie.
Mr. Greybeard has revealed an arm patch, a square-logo winter hat, a backpack variation, and a winter jacket.
Splinter Shield has kept his gear under wraps so far, possibly waiting for Survive Fest to drop his announcement.
Survive Fest (The Division 1 Event): Runs from December 9th through the 15th. If you log into The Division 1 and play the OG Survival game mode, you can receive rewards in The Division 2, including the Woodsman outfit and a new arm patch.
Winter Holiday Event: Expected later this month. It is described as an iteration on the successful Halloween event, promising to be “bigger and better”.
